Those in the know are already aware of the significance of tonight’s deadline. Never heard of a Monday night deadline? Then you, like most of QFL Nation, have never read the QFL Constitution.

Tonight by midnight ET is the last time you can drop a player and still have a chance at picking him back up again in free agency in the same week (if he clears waivers without getting claimed). Tonight’s deadline holds more importance than most weeks because of the QFL-Europe eligibility rule.

Usually a team would wait until midnight Monday night to drop a player because that team wanted to give as little time as possible for other teams to notice. 24 hours is the mandated minimum in the Constitution. A team might attempt this move in the hopes the player clears waivers and can be bid on for a cheaper salary in free agency. The Monday deadline prior to week 5 takes on added significance because the Thursday prior to week 5 is the deadline for QFLE designations. This Wednesday night is QFL Nation’s last chance to pick up a ≤ $2  free agent who can be eligible for QFLE.

So, what’s the connection between Monday’s deadline and QFLE? Say you have a $3 player that would be perfect for QFLE. If you drop that player today or tonight (no Tuesday waives), and he clears waivers, you still have enough time to place a $2 bid for that same player Wednesday night and then declare him a Europe player by Thursday night. Got it?
