What happens when you give two completely separate fantasy leagues the same rules, the same rookie pool, and a blank draft board?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You get the QFL Prime and QFL Thrice rookie drafts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although both leagues operate under the QFL format, Prime and Thrice are independent leagues with their own managers, teams, draft capital and strategies<\/strong>. That makes comparing their rookie drafts particularly interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The question isn’t how the QFL changed from Prime to Thrice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When two different leagues are given the same group of rookies, how similarly do they value them?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The answer, based on the first rounds, is surprisingly similar \u2014 but with plenty of disagreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

The Same Rules, Very Different Draft Boards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

QFL Prime was the first-ever QFL league, and its rookie draft established the original market for this group of players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime’s first round began:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    QFL Thrice, operating independently, opened its rookie draft with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Right away, we see something fascinating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The two leagues agreed emphatically on the top two players<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      But after Love and Price, the debate begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Prime preferred Tate at No. 3, while Thrice pushed Stribling into that spot. Prime had Lemon fourth and Concepcion fifth, while Thrice had both players considerably later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      This isn’t one league correcting the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      It’s two different groups of managers looking at the same players and reaching different conclusions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Love and Price: The Universal Top Two<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

      If there was one thing the two leagues agreed on, it was the top of the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Jeremiah\/Jeremiyah Love went No. 1 in both leagues.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Jadarian Price went No. 2 in both leagues.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      That’s remarkable considering the drafts were conducted independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      There was no shared draft order and no requirement for Thrice to follow Prime’s rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Yet the two leagues independently reached the exact same conclusion about their top two rookies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      For Love in particular, the consistency is striking. Prime made him the first-ever rookie selection in QFL history, and Thrice’s managers independently arrived at the same decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Whatever the differences between the leagues, Love was apparently the easiest decision on either draft board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n\n\n\n

      Stribling Is the Biggest Winner<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

      No player benefited more from the difference between the two leagues’ evaluations than De’Zhaun Stribling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Prime selected Stribling seventh overall<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Thrice selected him third<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      That’s a four-pick difference, and it represents one of the clearest examples of the two leagues having different opinions about the same player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Thrice’s managers weren’t simply following Prime’s lead. If they were, Stribling would have been available much later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Instead, they placed him ahead of several players who went before him in Prime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      That’s the beauty of having separate leagues: the same player can have a completely different market depending on who is holding the draft picks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Tyson and Lane Also Rise in Thrice<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

      Stribling isn’t the only player who received a much higher valuation in Thrice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Jordan Tyson<\/strong> went from No. 8 in Prime to No. 5 in Thrice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Ja’Kobi Lane<\/strong> went from No. 10 in Prime to No. 6 in Thrice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Sadiq<\/strong> went from No. 11 in Prime to No. 7 in Thrice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In other words, Thrice wasn’t simply copying Prime’s draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      It had its own preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Three players who were outside Prime’s top seven were pushed into Thrice’s top seven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      That tells us that Thrice’s managers saw a different tier of talent emerging from the same rookie pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Prime’s Favorites Slide in Thrice<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

      Of course, every riser needs a faller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The biggest Thrice slides among players selected in both drafts were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Omar Cooper’s six-pick drop is the largest difference among the returning players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Jonah Coleman also experienced a significant change, falling from sixth in Prime to 11th in Thrice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      And perhaps the most interesting pair is Lemon and Concepcion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Prime managers valued them as the fourth- and fifth-overall picks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Thrice managers still liked both players enough to take them in the first round, but pushed them down to eighth and ninth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      That’s not a rejection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      It’s a different valuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The Biggest Surprise: How Much the Leagues Agree<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

      For all of the differences, the most impressive part of the comparison may actually be the amount of agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Of Thrice’s 24 first-round selections, 20 were also selected in Prime’s first round<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      That’s more than 80 percent of the Thrice draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      That means that despite being completely independent leagues, the managers in both QFLs identified a remarkably similar group of players as the most desirable rookies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The disagreement was primarily about where those players belonged<\/strong>, rather than whether they belonged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      That’s an important distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Both leagues essentially identified the same core rookie class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      They just shuffled the deck differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Four Players Break Into the Thrice First Round<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

      Thrice did, however, introduce four names that weren’t selected in Prime’s first round:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Thrice’s managers did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Whether those selections ultimately prove to be steals or reaches is a question for another season, but the draft itself establishes an important fact:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The two leagues did not have identical opinions about the depth of the rookie class.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Thrice found four players worth spending first-round capital on who never made Prime’s opening round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        And Four Prime Picks Don’t Make Thrice<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

        The reverse is just as interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          That means a player being selected early in one league doesn’t create any obligation for another league’s managers to value him similarly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          In Thrice, VOTE QUIMBY<\/strong> was particularly aggressive, accounting for seven selections in the 24-pick first round:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The Prime draft had a completely different distribution of picks and managers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            And that’s precisely what makes the comparison worthwhile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            These aren’t the same franchises making decisions years apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            They’re different fantasy teams operating under the same QFL rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            What the Drafts Tell Us About the QFL Format<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

            The comparison between Prime and Thrice is almost a real-world experiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Take:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The same rules.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The same rookie class.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Two different groups of managers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Then let them draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The result is remarkably consistent at the top but increasingly unpredictable as the draft progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Love and Price were universally accepted as the top two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The next group \u2014 Tate, Stribling, Tyson, Lemon, Concepcion, Lane, Sadiq and Coleman \u2014 was much more fluid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            That’s exactly what you want from a competitive fantasy ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            There isn’t one objectively correct draft board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            There are different evaluations, different team needs, different risk tolerances and different managers willing to make different bets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Prime vs. Thrice: The Verdict<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

            If QFL Prime and QFL Thrice were competing against each other for the title of “best rookie draft,”<\/strong> there would be no easy winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Prime gets credit for being the first to identify the talent pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Thrice gets credit for having its own opinions rather than simply mirroring Prime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            But the real winner might be the QFL format itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Two independent leagues produced rookie drafts that were more than 80 percent identical in player selection<\/strong>, yet still had substantial differences in player valuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            That’s a pretty compelling result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The consensus says the leagues recognized the same stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The differences say the managers weren’t just following a script.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            And that’s what makes rookie drafts fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The names are the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The rules are the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            But the people making the picks are different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            QFL Prime and QFL Thrice prove that even when everyone is playing the same game, nobody has to see the draft board the same way.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
