There are two kinds of fantasy football drafts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are drafts where owners calmly identify value, exploit positional scarcity, preserve salary-cap flexibility and emerge with a coherent roster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then there is the QFL Masters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last night, twelve supposedly adult men gathered for the Restricted Free Agent auction and rookie draft, where they were entrusted with $100, a computer, a list of NFL players and the ability to make decisions that could haunt them for an entire season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Naturally, the first thing that happened was that the software started lying to everybody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official notes from the evening include incorrect salary calculations, missing players, negative balances, roster-refresh problems, defensive players disappearing from screens, and repeated browser-refresh instructions. At one point the league apparently needed to remind people to keep the \u201call\u201d filter on so they could actually see defenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In other words: the perfect environment for making million-dollar decisions with $1 fantasy contracts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The QFL Constitution gives these owners a $100 salary cap and requires them to leave the auction with at least 16 players, including two quarterbacks, two running backs, at least one wide receiver, two WR\/TEs, a kicker and two defenses. The rookie draft is two rounds of 12 selections, with rookie contracts starting at $4\/$4\/$3\/$3\/$2\/$2\/$1…<\/p>\n\n\n\n So who won?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Who lost?<\/p>\n\n\n\n And who should immediately be forced to explain himself to the Competition Committee?<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN presents the 2026 QFL Masters Auction & Rookie Draft Power Rankings.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Jayden Daniels, Bucky Irving, Devon Achane, Derrick Henry and Brock Bowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Oh, and Justin Jefferson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This roster is absurdly loaded at the positions that actually matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The most impressive thing about Even More Quimby’s night wasn’t even a specific purchase. It was the restraint. While other owners were apparently treating the $100 cap like a dare, Quimby spent only $13<\/strong> in the auction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The purchases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Seven players for thirteen bucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, the final roster already had Daniels, Achane, Henry, Bowers and Jefferson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s not an auction. That’s a coupon book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are some ugly depth pieces, and eventually the roster needs to be cut to 18. But that’s a problem for Future Quimby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Present Quimby is sitting there with Justin Jefferson wondering why everybody else spent half their cap trying to acquire a backup kicker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: A<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cWait, we don’t have to spend the money?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Patrick Mahomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lamar Jackson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Baker Mayfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n James Cook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chuba Hubbard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n DK Metcalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Malik Nabers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jayden Reed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tucker Kraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This team has three quarterbacks who would make other teams’ owners feel uncomfortable about their own QB situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And it paid just $3 for Mahomes<\/strong> in the auction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That is either outstanding roster management or evidence that everyone else was asleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The $22 auction bill included Mahomes for $3, Chuba for $4, Tucker Kraft for $3, Chicago for $3 and San Francisco for $5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The $5 San Francisco defense may eventually be remembered as the moment this owner finally became confused again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Still, this roster has elite ceiling without needing to rely on 17 different lottery tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: A-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cI got Mahomes for three dollars. Please don’t tell the commissioner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is something deeply irritating about an owner making only four auction purchases and still walking away looking smart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Drake London: $17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Baltimore D\/ST: $10<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Jaylen Warren: $5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Cam Little: $1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s the entire auction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, the pre-existing roster contains Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, Travis Etienne, Garrett Wilson and Kyle Pitts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is what happens when you enter the auction with a good roster and refuse to participate in the communal psychosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The obvious downside is depth. This team is betting heavily on its stars staying healthy, which is generally the fantasy equivalent of betting against gravity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But if Allen, McCaffrey, Etienne, London and Wilson all hit?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Good luck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: A-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cWhy would I bid? Look at my roster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Justin Herbert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trevor Lawrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Geno Smith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A.J. Brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris Olave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jaxon Smith-Njigba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tetairoa McMillan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Terry McLaurin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s a ridiculous amount of quarterback and receiver talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The problem is the running backs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jeremiyah Love is the swing-for-the-fences play. James Conner is the \u201cwe’ll worry about that later\u201d play. Kaelon Black and Jacory Croskey-Merritt are the \u201cmaybe something happens\u201d plays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The auction itself was disciplined: $22 total, highlighted by Houston D\/ST at $13 and then a collection of inexpensive depth pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And yes, spending $13 on Houston while getting Geno Smith for $1 is exactly the kind of allocation that makes QSN question the concept of money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Still, the starting lineup potential is outstanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: A-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cRunning backs are overrated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Joe Burrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bijan Robinson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kyren Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Alvin Kamara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Davante Adams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n DeVonta Smith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jameson Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chris Godwin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This roster is loaded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is also approximately 40% composed of players who were already famous when some of the league’s rookies were learning how to walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The auction was aggressive but productive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The $12 Kyren purchase looks particularly good because this team needed another high-end running back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The concern is obvious: there is a lot of veteran mileage here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But fantasy football isn’t a retirement plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: B+<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cThey’re all still good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jahmyr Gibbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Puka Nacua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CeeDee Lamb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mike Evans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Emeka Egbuka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That is a fantastic core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The problem is what happens when you look behind Gibbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Malik Davis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jadarian Price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s not a running-back room. That’s a cry for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The auction was almost comically restrained: only $8<\/strong> total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chase McLaughlin: $1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Malik Davis: $1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Cincinnati: $3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Washington: $3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The owner essentially wandered through the auction, bought a kicker and two defenses, and went home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Honestly, with Puka, CeeDee and Gibbs already on the roster, maybe that’s exactly what you’re supposed to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: B+<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cI’m saving my money.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n This team has Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, Tony Pollard and Aaron Jones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It then spent another $3 on Josh Jacobs<\/strong>, apparently just to make sure everyone knew the running-back room was serious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The auction was the second-most expensive in the league at $47<\/strong>, highlighted by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The roster is stacked at RB and has legitimate receiver talent in George Pickens, Stefon Diggs, Marvin Harrison and Courtland Sutton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But this team has made a very QFL decision:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Let’s acquire every running back we can and figure out why later.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Constitution eventually requires rosters to be reduced to 18 active players. This roster currently has 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Somebody is going to have to cut somebody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And we suspect the owner’s solution will be to acquire another running back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: B<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cYou can never have too many running backs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Caleb Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kyler Murray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n C.J. Stroud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jonathan Taylor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Breece Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Omarion Hampton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zay Flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tyler Warren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s a very good roster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So naturally the owner spent auction money on another wide receiver and three defenses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zay Flowers cost $9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n New England cost $9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kansas City cost $6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Michael Wilson cost $5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trey Smack cost $1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thirty dollars total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The problem isn’t the individual players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The problem is that this roster has three quarterbacks and three defenses<\/strong> in a league where the starting lineup uses one quarterback and one defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Somewhere, a QFL mathematician is looking at this roster and whispering, \u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Still, the starting lineup is strong enough that the stupidity may not matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: B-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cI just wanted to make sure I had enough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is a genuinely good team buried in here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dak Prescott.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ashton Jeanty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kenneth Walker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chase Brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trey McBride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rashee Rice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n George Kittle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s a strong core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The auction was reasonably efficient at $33:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dak Prescott \u2014 $11 The problem is that the roster feels like someone was simultaneously building a contender and conducting a six-month audition for the practice squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fernando Mendoza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n De’Zhaun Stribling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Brenton Strange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Harrison Mevis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At some point, the owner stopped drafting players and started collecting names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: B-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cI like the upside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n QOJIRA has Amon-Ra St. Brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It also has Drake Maye, TreVeyon Henderson, RJ Harvey, J.K. Dobbins, D’Andre Swift, Rhamondre Stevenson and Rome Odunze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So why does this feel like a team that might finish ninth?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because it has exactly two quarterbacks, and one of them is Malik Willis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s not necessarily illegal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It’s just alarming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The auction itself was fine: $18 total, with J.K. Dobbins taking the biggest bite at $9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And then came the bizarrely inexpensive collection of tight ends and quarterbacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mark Andrews: $1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hunter Henry: $1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Malik Willis: $2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The owner spent more on Dobbins than on the entire collection of those three players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is either brilliant value hunting or a cry for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: C+<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cI got a lot of upside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n …and discovered that their quarterback room was Jaxson Dart, Brock Purdy and Ty Simpson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s the roster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The receiver group is excellent:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nico Collins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tee Higgins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n D.J. Moore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Matthew Golden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Josh Downs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sam LaPorta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The running backs are… complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n David Montgomery, Najee Harris and Zach Charbonnet provide recognizable names, while the rest of the room is mostly upside bets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The auction spending tells the story:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Parker Washington \u2014 $10<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n D.J. Moore \u2014 $9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Brock Purdy \u2014 $4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Najee Harris \u2014 $3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Isaiah Likely \u2014 $3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Zach Charbonnet \u2014 $2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This owner spent $19 on Parker Washington and D.J. Moore and apparently decided quarterback could be addressed with whatever was left in the couch cushions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Also, this roster has 23 players<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Constitution says active rosters must eventually be cut to 18 before Week 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That means five players are getting fired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We recommend starting with whoever thought Parker Washington was worth ten dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: C<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cTrust the process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Let’s begin with the positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ja’Marr Chase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jaylen Waddle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ladd McConkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Brian Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Christian Watson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Matthew Stafford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jordan Love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bryce Young.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is talent here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is also an absolutely staggering amount of stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Quince Khalifa spent $48<\/strong>, the most of any team in the auction, and acquired 14 players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The haul included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jaylen Waddle \u2014 $13 Fourteen auction purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fourteen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The final roster has 25 players<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Constitution eventually requires the roster to be reduced to 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That means this owner effectively spent the evening creating his own future cut-down day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And the funniest part?<\/p>\n\n\n\n The team already had Ja’Marr Chase, Ladd McConkey, Christian Watson and Brian Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Apparently the response to having enough wide receivers was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat if we got eight more?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n This is not roster construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is hoarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN verdict: C-<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Draft-night quote:<\/strong> \u201cI can always cut somebody.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Even More Quimby<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n $13 for seven players might be the most impressive piece of financial management in the entire draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Quince Khalifa \u2014 $48<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Congratulations on spending nearly half your salary cap and still having 25 players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Probably one of the several $1 players who will eventually outperform the $13 guys.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This is the QFL. We refuse to commit to a specific one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Parker Washington \u2014 $10, TEN Q TANG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n QSN is prepared to be wrong about this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We would actually prefer to be wrong about this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Mel Gibson Jews<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Josh Allen + Christian McCaffrey + Garrett Wilson + Drake London + Travis Etienne is a frightening collection of names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Quince Khalifa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Eight-ish wide receivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Four defenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Three quarterbacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A large number of running backs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Twenty-five total players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The roster equivalent of walking into Costco because you needed toothpaste and leaving with a pallet of mayonnaise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Refresh Button<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The meeting notes indicate owners repeatedly had to refresh browsers, clear roster spots, fix negative balances and restore missing defensive players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Refresh Button did more meaningful work than several owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The league spending part of the evening debating defensive scarcity while the software was apparently telling people they had the wrong amount of money.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The notes specifically mention competitive bidding caused by defensive scarcity, while also recording misleading remaining-budget figures and roster-display problems. We cannot close without acknowledging the most mysterious subplot of the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The league agreed that Josh Jacobs should be released if specific video evidence was provided<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The official notes actually contain a follow-up assignment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDrop Josh Jacobs: Release the player from the roster if the video evidence is provided.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We have no idea what the video shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We don’t want to know what the video shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We only know that somewhere in the QFL universe there is apparently a piece of footage important enough to determine the contractual fate of Josh Jacobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This league has a $100 salary cap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It has a constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It has a Competition Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It has 12 owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And apparently it has a Josh Jacobs investigative unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The good news is that almost everybody came away with at least a few players they can legitimately build around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The bad news is that almost everybody also did something stupid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s the beauty of the QFL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Constitution says the auction is supposed to produce legal rosters, the rookie draft is supposed to reward draft position, and the salary cap is supposed to force difficult choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Last night, the league instead produced:<\/p>\n\n\n\n In other words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Masters League is ready for football.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Whether the owners are ready for the Masters League remains to be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And remember: these rankings are made before a single meaningful game has been played.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Which means there is still plenty of time for every single one of us to be completely wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That’s the QFL.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" QSN grades every owner’s night of questionable judgment There are two kinds of fantasy football drafts.
