The cellar dwellers

It’s getting to the point where it’s embarrassing for the Second and Third Leagues, so this is the last time I will mention that we are still crushing them in scoring on a weekly basis.

Rishi put up 101 points in week 4 to Sketchy Dan’s 88 in QFL2 and Wiseguy’s 86 in QFL3. No one won a skin.

QFL Movers & Shakers Week 4 edition.

#1 (4-0) TenQ – The stars are aligning for TenQ if Moss gets traded to the Vikings. The only problem with being the undisputed early season best team is, that team never wins. Rarely does a team in this position not fizzle down the stretch.

TenQ is achieving this success with a large player base so it will be interesting to see if it can be kept up after the cut deadline Thursday. Only CJ, Shady, Akers and GB D have started every game, otherwise the team has relied on 11 different starters so far.

TenQ played the wishbone for the first time week 4 after playing the formation all but two games last year. Not coincidentally, a study commissioned by QSN found that the wishbone formation is one of the losingest(sp?) formations this year. The best formation will surprise you. Full study details at bottom of this post.

Official Team Announcement: TenQ will package Peyton Hillis and Lance Moore for a 2011 first round pick or Braylon Edwards for a second. If you’re a contender you won’t be able to get these guys off waivers.

#2 (3-1) OrigQ – Missed the week 4 skin by ~8 points. Is it a coincidence that the first and second place teams after 4 weeks were also the last teams left at the end of the Auction signing the remaining scrubs value players (QBC doesn’t count)? It appears the two team’s value investing strategies are paying off and it’s sustainable too with both teams projected to have between $13-$15 in available cap space to target free agents going forward. Expect to hear from both teams about trades over the next two days. Tho, Rishi waived a lot of guys at midnight.

#3 (3-1) SOQ – Five teams made lineup changes after noon on Sunday. With seven minutes to go, Scott was one of them, switching Darby for Kuhn. Still won. SOQ’s injury plagued corpse of a team just wins games.

#4 (2-2) QTang – The last lineup change was Benny, 6 minutes before games started. Desperate not to start Houshmandzadeh against TenQ, QTang pulled off a should-have-been-game-saving trade for Nanee with Rishi. It didn’t work out (Housh scored and Nanee didn’t), but those are the kinds of moves that you have to make happen if you’re going to win games. The transaction went unrecorded on QSN Sunday, but QTang traded their 2011 2nd rounder in the deal. The trade was not only impressive for the deadline beating, determined nature, but was executed while Rishi was in cell phone reception poor Maine for a wedding. Nice try guys.

#5 (2-2) FRNQ – On behalf of the QFL, thank you for the extra $50. FRNQ is the only franchise not to pay the $400 into LeagueSafe by the deadline, instead electing to pay the $50 late payment fine. That’s an extra $3.84 per skin courtesy of McD. That’s on top of what will already be an increased skin payout this year due to the extended free agency and waiver period.

#6 (2-2) FahQ – As much as you think you can, don’t count out FahQ just yet.  The team is 1-1 in West Division play and a mere .95 more points in week 3 away from a 3-1 season. The team’s $90 starting lineup with no depth philosophy is working… so far. But. One injury. Done.

#7 (2-2) BQP -  The pre-season favorite in the eyes of many observers, BQP is obviously not living up to expectations, but is not out of it either. This should be recognized as typical for a Shades run team, BQP is lumbering along just enough to make it interesting at the end. Team is still QSN’s favorite to be the next first-time Quince Bowl winner ahead of FahQ and QU. But not this year.

#8 (2-2) QBC – Surprisingly relevant still, QBC is expected to fade quickly with no backup for Bradshaw or Glen Coffee.

#9 (2-2) SwineQ – The Commissioner jinx may be finally catching up with Pope Paul. The first two weeks he just eked out wins by less than a point combined, the second two weeks Paul gets blown out by 125 points combined.

#10 (1-3) QUnet – Critical game to save season against SOQ next week, but, half QUnet’s team is on a bye (Pittsburgh heavy). Even has to pick up a kicker Wednesday. Could be forced to make a move in the next 48 hours.

#11 (1-3) Q – The hapless defending Champion will have you know this is the second time in four games that he has lost a QB to injury in the first quarter.

#12 (0-4) QU – Don’t worry about it Hans there’s a 0-4 team in QFL3 too. Hans is making all the right lineup calls, things just aren’t working out this year. Hans plays Rishi next in a game that will decide his season. While still mathematically possible to come back from 0-5 it’s never been done.
