Gentlemen, I understand you may be interested in joining a new fantasy league. Our league is not like typical leagues and requires somewhat of a commitment – its a keeper league, its an auction, and the rules are complex, allowing you greater freedoms and decision-making than any other league. It is rare if someone can win this league by merely reading ESPN’s top 300 players every year.

That being said, here is some important background

1. This league is a 5th iteration of my league (the QFL), which has been around for 16 years now and has been written up in Sports Illustrated (back when it was relevant) for how unique it is.

2. The original QFL is the founding league, and controls the rule making. Rules are found here: http://www.qballers.com/QFL_Constitution.pdf

3. We have 3 other leagues in existence – QFL II – IV. Each league has 12 teams. There is no interleague play (although we may institute side leagues, and side betting to facilitate this)

4. You would be the founders of the QFL V. You would set your own fees (typically $100) but you would be subject to the same rules as the other QFLs. For example, there is a rule for slaggers dues whereby each team owes 10 cents for every point they are behind the team with the second highest points.

5. How will your team be folded in? First, each team from your league will be using the same rules. Second, each team from your league will contribute $25 to a pool across all QFLs. The best team across all QFLs gets a majority of the money.

6. Because our rules are customized, we require something better than yahoo, espn and CBS. We use a site called fantrax. It’s about 80 bucks per year and with a click of a button we can replicate our league rules, schedules, etc.

7. You can keep up to 8 players per year, whose salaries will transfer to this year (you have a $100 spending cap). You can additionally “keep” 2 “minor leaguers,” which could give you up to 10 keepers.

And lots of you just being a general idiot

8. You can choose your starting line up (“formation”): 1) QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, D, K; 2) QB, 3 RB, 1 TE, 1 WR; 3) QB, 1 RB, 4 WR. A TE may be substituted for a WR up to two times; a WR may not be substituted for a TE. This gives you great flexibility in starting a line up.

9. There is only one free agency period per week. It is a blind bidding system.

10. You will have to set an auction date. The auction can be done electronically using fantrax. The first year is very easy because all players are available (i.e., no one has been kept, duh).

11. I should add that we have a separate rookie draft every year (not the first year of the league and players have contracts – first year, second year, Option year, Transition tagging, Franchise tagging, and rookie contracts. All this plays into strategy.

Rest assured, by reading this email there is NO OBLIGATION at this point. If you want more information, you can check out our dumb informational sitehttp://qballers.com/blog/ or you can reach out to me.
