Playoff Scenarios by Dr. Q

Week 13 will be pretty non-eventful at the top of the QFL as the first five teams can rest starters. Ben (10-2) and Scott (8-4) have clinched divisions and first round byes (SOQ has tiebreaker over Qbola). Even though Shane could beat Paul in week 13, which would result in both teams finishing 7-6, Paul has already clinched the West with a 5-0 division record. Similarly, Josh (8-4) and Hans (7-6) are only playing for winner’s bracket seeding at this point.

There is still a chance a team can get the final spot if Shane chokes in Week 13.

Of course, if Shane wins, his 7-6 record is something that the 5-win teams (Rishi, Jay, Shade) cannot touch. In addition, if Rishi loses to Ted, Shane would still clinch since he has tiebreakers over all of the other 5-7 teams: Shades (Week 9) and Jay (Week 10).

However, if Rishi wins (869 points) and Shane loses (858 points), with a split head-to-head and the same divisional record, the tiebreaker would go to points. As such, Rishi has a chance to sneak into the final spot with a good showing and a Shane win. . . unless. . .

Jay also wins. Jay actually has the tiebreaker over Rishi (Week 5), so he could sneak in with a Shane loss, Rishi win and Jay Win.

At first glance, I thought Shades was out since he lost to Shane (Week 9) and Rishi (Week 6). However, not so fast. Admittedly, Shades would still need a miracle in making up a huge point differential, but it is not impossible. Shades and Jay did not play, so their tiebreaker would be points. As such, Shades would need Shane to lose (and not score about 11 more points than Rishi), Rishi to win (but still score a whopping 72 fewer points than Shades), Jay to win (but still score about 7 fewer points than Shades). In this scenario, 4 teams would finish 6-7. Shane would be out since Rishi scored more points. Jay beat Rishi, who beat Shades, who would have the points tiebreaker over Jay, so the three teams would go to a points tiebreaker. If Shades can score 72 more points than Rishi (who still needs to win), Duggan would sneak in. There is still hope!
